Maintaining Your Manicure!

Maintaining your manicure in the colour weather requires a little extra TLC! Why?

Because of the cold, dry air and potential exposure to elements that are harsh on our skin and nails.

What can you do?? Here are some top tips:

• Regularly use a moisturiser: the cold weather is bad enough but also indoor heating can strip away any moisture, this leads to dry brittle nails + cuticles. Apply a hydrating hand cream and cuticle oil to your hands and nails daily to lock in the moisture!

• Wearing gloves: this will protect both your hands and your nails from the cold and any harsh elements when going outside. This helps prevent exposure to cold air and prevents losing any moisture, this is how your nails + cuticles can become dry and brittle.

• Avoiding hot water: having your hands in hot water too long can be drying to your nails and cuticles! When your nails are dry they shrink away from any gel or enhancements on your nails. Try to limit the amount of time your hands are in water.

• Keeping your nails short/ manageable: during colder months your nails can already be supseptable to damage so keeping them at a more manageable length with help avoid breakages and less likely to catch on clothing or objects, therefore less damage to your nails.

• When cleaning wear gloves: the chemicals used in household cleaning products can weaken your nails therefore you get more damage/ breaking and chipping. Wearing rubber gloves can prevent this from happening.

• Avoid the over use of hand sanitizer: although it is great to use for hygiene, hand sanitizer can be very drying to your nails depending on what formula you have. Go for one that has has moisturising ingredients in or make sure you use lot's of hand cream afterwards to prevent dryness and cracking around your nails.

• Use hydrating nail treatments: products that contain ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil or vitamin E help nourish and strengthen your nails.

• Schedule regular maintenance appointments: your manicure may chip or wear down more due to the harsher elements in the colder weather so booking in regularly can keep your nails looking and feeling healthy and keep them fresh and well-maintained.

Following these top tips in the colder months can help protect your manicure and help your nails stay healthy and strong between appointments thus helping you and your nail tech 🫶🏼
